Hello everybody! Welcome to the next installment of my dive into classic Euro onroaders!!

Things seemed to fall into place for this build- I've always loved old Euro sports cars having worked with them when I was younger, I've had a shiny new Ender 3 since the January sales, and I've got a few Tamiya onroad chassis, including an M06 that used to be an mx5/eunos/miata and has since been scavenged for my Volvo...

I've been chatting quite a bit with Lem on discord, his designs are beautiful and offer nice options for those of us who want a scale onroad hardbody- something that has been a bit lacking in the market previously.

Here's a link to his files:

Having downloaded the files I started slicing and printing the big bits. I'd done quite a few little prints prints before but this is a bit different, using 0.12 layer thickness for accuracy some of the main body pieces are over 24 hours long!

Better get the bed level properly first... thankfully I didn't have any issues with that though my printer did make a few errors with supports... didn't seem to affect the model.

Edit: ran out of white PLA so there's a funky colour change halfway through!

Cheers all and cheers Lem!

Such car porn :coolred:

Always a nice time chatting with ya on discord o7
Btw dont glue in the grill yet, i want to try out a method to create the mesh structure and bind them to a control plane i can then modify to the shape inside the front.
Will keep you updated

Wow, very cool. Looks like a nice smooth print too!

Yup, I'm very impressed with it.

Nice one! Yeah, I need to get to work on the smaller prints...

Excellent!

Indeed!

I love this body.

Ok, having got the main bits together with CA I started cutting the windows out. Drilled first:

Then I attacked them with side snips, knife and sanders.

I'm a total noob with PLA and I discovered you do have to be pretty careful, it likes to crack along the print seams. However, little cracks are easily fixed with more CA.

Intetestingly, my Grey PLA seems a lot more robust than the White PLA. I believe Lem has also thickened the walls a bit- I printed an early version.

Here it is looking quite car-ie:

I made a mistake in the rear join there, got a slight crack while removing vast amounts of support. Again, easy fix as CA is so quick.

First layer of primer on and it's sanding time!

Ok, sorry it's been so long since I updated this. The body did come out pretty smooth but to show off all those gorgeous curves it really does have to be perfect. Each time I primed, filled and sanded I thought I was there but each time would find more areas that needed a little more work. It does look pretty cool when you've sanded through multiple layers:

Anyway, after many repetitions of the magic formula, today it seemed ready for the next step. A couple of imperfections remain, I'll do a few more layers of paint and wet sanding but now it's in raw metal (Tamiya AS-12- I had some left over from another project).

I was intending to put a different colour over the top... but I'm quite liking the silver... any opinions?

Especially after Lem showed me this example:

I've also replaced the M06 bits I stole for the Volvo so it's sitting on a running chassis now... Next step is to print all the little details.

Cheers!

The silver does look awesome, and I think you're on the right track with some accent tones, but I'm not so sure about the Hawaiian Punch Mustache look.

There are two really definitive belt lines on this body that are begging for a stripe, maybe more Metallics would accent the silver, like a dark bronze or copper, something you can tie in the rear fascia and a wheel accent with. Something along the lines of the Lotus Cortina stripe.

Well done dagabba
the building of your simca starts to progress well, it's great!
Slick tires and Gotti competition rims will suit it perfectly...

HOLY YES! That looks awesome.

Thanks Matt!

Looks great in silver! And the dimension of the wheels and tires looks spot on! Awesome.

Thanks Fred, that's Lem's work, not mine!

Ah yeah, I know what you mean... and I do like a nice Cortina... but I'm now thinking I'll try my original colour idea and see how that looks... all will be revealed...

Thanks Beanos! Yeah, I need to detail some of Lem's rims up!

wow, really nice

Thanks Pera!

Love it!!!

Thanks Scott!

Silver really works on that!

Maybe a stripe pattern kinda like either the Martini or Gulf racing livery?

Have to say I really love a nice Martini livery... but... it screams factory team to me and I want this to be more of an enthusiast trackday/historic rally/classic le mans sort of thing... hopefully that will come across when it's done.
