Well, went on holidays for a couple of weeks so had a break from this build. Back at it and added in the detailing (window trim, accessories, etc.), did some body work on it, and then hit it up with primer and paint. It's all back together now, so maybe this weekend it will finally see some dirt action! At the very least, I hope to get some better outdoor pics.

Thanks for the compliments guys. To answer your question Jim, yes, the centre mounts have holes where I've zip tied the springs to them. I have a center punch for the springs which I'll do on the next version and drill a hole through the centre mount. Right now, they do slide back and forth a little bit.

Rainy day out today, so looks like its maiden voyage might have to wait a day or so

No weathering on this one, maybe the next version I build.

Managed to get out with this rig in the badlands on the weekend for a shakedown run. Performed quite well. A few tweaks here and there (many of which I already knew I'd have to do). Running a rig this big is both a challenge and a lot of fun. The hill climbing capabilities are pretty amazing (the video doesn't do it justice, but that was a very steep slope!).

Few pics and video:

Wow! Awesome Man. Thats a great build and what looks to have been a really fun time out with it.
How long is it in total, over 3 feet? Nice.

I agree starting a RC Truck Trail club or just getting together would be wicked, I'd be willing to drive three hours to the destination :D. Wicked build

Cheers!

Yep, definitely over 3 feet. I'll have to do an exact measurement at some point, but it's a beast!

Just part of the styrene rear plate. Got hooked up on the rock and popped it off. Easy fix!

Any updates and can I get a side shot of the suspension without wheels please(hate to be a pain, but would help me greatly  ) I am getting the itch bad to start on the Hemtt again...

Sort of updates below :D! Will get you those shots in a bit. Changing up the suspension a little more on this rig, yet again. It takes work for sure.

Yes, I went out with two others yesterday locally. While I like this build and it does what it does, it can't come close to keeping up with a well built 1.9 scaler like the two others running yesterday. Not that it isn't fun, it just has its limitations. Running with other 8x8s, 6x6s or similar military builds would be ideal.

For the most part, things worked well. I center punched all the leaf springs, secured them to the axle, so no more slipping leafs. However, I need to work on the center mount for the springs to allow it to swivel, as I limited the articulation too much. Pretty easy fix though.

Other than that, the biggest issue was the driveshafts falling off. My own fault for not tightening down the grub screws enough apparently. Few pics from the day:
